AGPU: New VinylPlus communication projects in 2018

This year AGPU and VinylPlus will again be working together on various communication projects. The project launched two years ago on energy and resource-efficient PVC products in public procurement will be continued in 2018. Relevant print media have already been identified and corresponding articles will be presented in different issues of the magazines this year.

The other two communication projects are also promising. In addition to dialogue events with decision-makers from politics and the construction industry, an intensive exchange of information between experts on the topic of PVC and plastics recycling is also on the agenda.

Erfolgreiche Veranstaltungsreihe: PVC-Recycler treffen PVC-Verarbeiter

The Second Recycling Meeting Was a Complete Success

At the beginning of September 2017, the second regional meeting of the „PVC Recyclers Meet PVC Processors“ series of events held by AGPU and VinylPlus took place in Minden/Porta Westfalica. The meeting attracted a very impressive total of more than 30 participants, who made the most of the opportunity to briefly present their products, services and requirements. They were then able to discuss these in detail in personal discussions. This second meeting was hosted by Tönsmeier Kunststoffe. After the event, the plastics recycling company also invited participants on a tour of its modern plastics sorting plant.

The third and final meeting this year will take place at the company Rehau in Erlangen on 23rd November. A number of participants have also already signed up to attend this networking event. If you too are interested in participating in the meeting or would like to find out more about the event programme, please feel free to contact us: Ms Julia Gogos ( at the AGPU office looks forward to hearing from you! We will be happy to send you an invitation to the meeting together with the event programme on request.

PVC Recycling in FOCUS Magazine

The next issue of FOCUS magazine (publication date: 30th September 2017) will contain a special supplement covering the topics of recycling and resources. AGPU was able to publish two articles in this high-quality publication, which will also feature an article by Plastics Europe and plastics recycling companies. The guest article by the AGPU Managing Director Thomas Hülsmann promotes the recycling of PVC building products in Germany and the successes achieved by the industry with regard to the topics of sustainability, resource efficiency and energy efficiency. A further guest article presents VinylPlus, the sustainability programme of the European PVC industry, and its objective of further increasing the registered quantities of recycled PVC by 2020.

Both articles will not only appear in the printed special supplement but also on the FOCUS website. A PDF version of the special supplement will additionally be available after the magazine has been published.

VinylPlus, the European PVC industry’s sustainability programme, has recently made its first announcement about the next VinylPlus Sustainability Forum 2018. Following the successful event this year in Berlin, the next edition will be held in Madrid on May 16 and 17 2018.

During the forum, VinylPlus members will once again have the opportunity to speak to stakeholders and discuss the most important issues and trends.

Save-the-Date: VinylPlus Sustainability Forum 2018

AGPU Sets Course for Its Future Orientation

AGPU becomes a member of VinylPlus, the sustainability programme of the European PVC industry. Stefan Valerius, the Managing Director of Dekura GmbH, is elected as a member of the AGPU Managing Board.

AGPU has now been committed to PVC in Germany for nearly 30 years. The transition to the development and production of sustainable products offers the entire industry a wide range of opportunities and both the PVC industry and AGPU are well prepared when it comes to dealing with this transition. Modern PVC products are not only reliable in terms of their application, but also offer innovative properties and remain sustainable throughout their service lives and right through to the recycling process.

At the AGPU General Meeting held at the Collegium Leoninum hotel in Bonn, member companies set the course for the next steps to be taken. „AGPU is becoming a national partner of VinylPlus, the sustainability partner of the European PVC industry“, explains Dr Axel Bruder, the Chairman of the AGPU Managing Board and a member of the Managing Board of RENOLIT SE in Worms. According to Bruder, the group will now continue the successful journey on which it embarked many years ago, which includes working in closer cooperation with VinylPlus and other associations in the European PVC network. Bruder states that this helps to strengthen both the continued work and competence of AGPU in Germany and the targets pursued by VinylPlus on a European level. He also explains that the cooperation of both associations helps to bring about important synergy effects in the industry.

Another focus of the agenda of the AGPU General Meeting was the election of Stefan Valerius, the Managing Director of Dekura GmbH as a member of the AGPU Managing Board. The company based in Höxter is one of the market leaders in the field of PVC and scrap window recycling in Europe. „The election of Mr Valerius means that the entire PVC value chain is yet again represented in the AGPU Managing Board“, states Thomas Hülsmann, the AGPU Managing Director.

The General Meeting was followed by the round-table event for decision-makers from the PVC industry. Alongside Dr Rüdiger Baunemann, the Director General of PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V. and a member of the AGPU Managing Board, the event organisers were also able to gain Dirk Jespen, the Executive Director of Ökopol – Institut für Ökologie und Politik GmbH, as a speaker for the event. In his presentation, Mr Jespen told participants about a current project that identifies the challenges involved in PVC recycling under REACH and waste legislation and proposes corresponding problem-solving approaches. Dr Baunemann provided participants at the round-table event with an insight into the roadmap of the European Commission and the contribution made by the plastics industry with regards to the European „Circular Economy Package“.

Strengthen PVC Recycling Activities

In consideration of current developments such as the German Packaging Law and the European Circular Economy Package, it is clear that PVC recycling is becoming increasingly important both in Germany and on a European level. It is therefore essential that we work together to make an effort in many different areas where this matter is concerned, especially in order to achieve the quantity-related targets set by VinylPlus, the sustainability programme of the European PVC industry.

With its three upcoming meetings in Troisdorf, Porta Westfalica and Erlangen, our successful series of „PVC Recyclers Meet PVC Processors“ events is a good starting point for these joint efforts. These events not only offer you the opportunity to present yourself, your company, products and requirements, but also to find out more about the current status of PVC recycling and to exchange information, ideas and experiences in personal conversations.

Participation in the events is free of charge. We look forward to seeing you there and enjoying interesting discussions full of new ideas and incentives. If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Julia Gogos.
